The Benefits of Air Source Heat Pumps

In one of our recent blog posts, we highlighted the benefits of using a ground source heat pump for your home. This time, we’re going to look at some of the benefits of using an air source heat pump instead.

Much like the ground sourced alternative, air source heat pumps transfer heat from outside to inside the building. The difference is that as the name suggests, the heat is coming from the air outside and not the ground. One of the advantages of using an air source pump over ground source is that there is no piping or groundwork that needs to be done. This makes them very easy to install on your home or business. These stand-alone units are around the same size as an air conditioning unit, and can be fixed in a similar way.

This incredibly efficient heating appliance works by drawing air from outside into a heat exchanger and into the building. Even when it’s below freezing outside the heat pump will provide heating and hot water throughout the year.

Air Source Heat Pumps only use electricity, which if you are supplied with renewable energy will be completely carbon neutral, and can save you a lot of money on your energy bills.

The Benefits of Air Source Heat Pumps

  • You save money on your heating bills; These appliances are so efficient they can easily reduce your heating bills, in some cases by up to 50%!
  • Saving Carbon Emmissions; As these pumps do not require fuel, and run incredibly efficiently, they do help reduce your carbon footprint
  • Temperature Control Throughout the Year; If it’s below freezing, or sweltering heat, the air source can keep your heating and hot water at a specified temperature throughout the year.
  • The Renewable Heat Incentive Scheme; Nearly all Air Source Heat Pump installations are covered by this scheme, so you can earn extra income!

Whilst these appliances are fairly low maintenance, the fan will more than likely need to be replaced every 10 years or so. But they should be much easier to keep going compared to ordinary combustion boilers.
